From the “squinty bridge” to the “*crookedest street”, this City Sightseeing bus departed Glasgow today, (Monday, December 11) on an epic journey that will take it across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal and onto Los Angeles before driving along the iconic Highway One Coast Road to its ultimate destination, San Francisco, USA. There it will be pressed into service on the San Francisco City Sightseeing tour.
Pictured here are Councillor Alex Mosson (standing), chairman of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, who launched the Glasgow City Sightseeing branded fleet in 2000 when he was Lord Provost of Glasgow, and Alex Pringle, managing director of City Sightseeing Glasgow Ltd. who is selling this 27-year-old vehicle on as part of a £0.5 million upgrading of his own fleet to include new low-emission vehicles with digital multi-lingual commentary systems.
The City Sightseeing livery is now used in 72 cities across the world, but Glasgow was the first UK city to adopt the brand back in 2000. The Glasgow operation is widely seen as best practice and is not only exporting vehicles, but also expertise.
Vehicle regulations in the USA dictate that tour buses either have to be brand new or more than 25 years old when they can trade as ‘vintage’.
