Friday 30 September 2005 will see the inaugural Scottish Style Awards.
The event will follow the UK’s most important date in the style calendar, London Fashion Week.
The Scottish Style Awards promise to be a stunning pan-Scotland celebration of style, fashion and music – toasted with the most fashionable champagne.
Cosmopolitan Glasgow, one of Europe’s most progressive cities, and one currently on the crest of a post-millennium creative boom, is the location of choice for the launch year.
The event is being supported by three main sponsors; Glasgow: Scotland with style, Glasgow City Council, and Moët & Chandon – Official Champagne to London Fashion Week.
Top Scottish hair salon Alan Edwards, recent winner of the highly coveted L’Oreal Colour Trophy for an enviable second time, is the Official Hair Sponsor in association with international brand L’Oreal Professionnel.
The venue for the Scottish Style Awards is the ultra-hip Tramway, one of Europe’s largest mixed-use art spaces and a focal point for creativity in Scotland.
The evening will begin with a champagne reception featuring Moët & Chandon, the world's leading champagne brand.
This will be followed by a runway show profiling the cream of Scotland’s fashion design talent, including short-listed finalists for the Scottish Fashion Designer of the Year award. The eight nominees include Jonathan Saunders, John Ray for Gucci and Yong Hei Fong – each of whom is a Scot’s born or Scot’s based talent making a serious impact on the international fashion scene.
Scottish Ballet, winner of the prestigious 2004 TMA Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Dance (UK) and hot on the heels (and pointes!) from a highly anticipated performance at the Edinburgh International Festival, will perform an exclusive dance piece prior to the runway show.
Dinner will be served after the fashion showcase and the evening will culminate with the glittering Scottish Style Awards in association with Glasgow: Scotland with style, the highly successful branding campaign aimed at raising the profile of the city to a world-wide audience.
BBC Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman is confirmed as host for the Scottish Style Awards, which in this inaugural year encompass twelve categories. Each winner will be chosen by majority decision of an illustrious judging panel comprising key creative industry professionals, each a highly respected authority within his or her own field in Scotland.
A number of guest celebrities will assist Edith Bowman in announcing the winners and making the prestigious award presentations.
The awards section of the evening will also feature live music performances from some of the hottest new artists to recently emerge from Scotland.
It is also the concern of the Scottish Style Awards to promote and expose Scotland’s design stars of tomorrow. A special award category, student Designer of the Year, draws it’s nominations from the country’s leading colleges including The Glasgow School of Art, Edinburgh College of Art, Dundee’s Duncan of Jordanstone, Glasgow Caledonian University and North Glasgow College. The judging panel will be asked to name the student or current year graduate from the disciplines of fashion, textiles, jewellery or graphic design whose work shows the most outstanding promise.
Overall, five hundred VIP guests will attend the Scottish Style Awards including key British style media, celebrities, creative industry types and influential opinion formers. Attendance at the event is strictly by invitation only and by table purchase.
A dedicated
Scottish Style Awards website, designed and managed by Algiz, the agency responsible for the
Scottish Style Awards brand identity, will be launched on Monday 18 July and updated on a regular basis thereafter. Details of short-listed award finalists, guest celebrity presenters and performing artists will be announced here prior to the event. The website address is
