Next month’s London Fashion Week (LFW) and OnIOff will once again be the showcase for some of Glasgow’s hottest young talent appearing under the banner of the
Glasgow: Scotland with style Design Collective.
The Glasgow: Scotland with style Design Collective initiative was launched at LFW last September to provide a platform for emerging design talent from the metropolitan Glasgow area.
It forms part of the city’s strategic repositioning, which has been underway since the launch of the Glasgow: Scotland with style brand in March 2004, using a wide range of ‘products’ including: art, architecture, design, events, food, fashion, film, music, sport or the performing arts to profile the city’s creativity
Councillor Alex Mosson, Chairman - Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said:
“Once again we are delighted to be able to offer assistance to some of our brightest young design talent under the umbrella of the Glasgow: Scotland with style Design Collective at London Fashion Week and OnIOff in February.
“We are extremely aware of the wealth of creative talent that exists in Glasgow and plans are currently underway that will help us develop an even bigger presence at London Fashion Week in September 07.”
After the success of its inaugural appearance in September 06, the following members of the Glasgow: Scotland with style Design Collective will be at London Fashion Week and OnIOff in February 07:
Christopher Kane – whose debut show proved to be one of September’s hottest catwalk tickets - will be premiering his eagerly anticipated Autumn/Winter Collection at London Fashion Week in the Topshop New Generation Venue.
Christopher said: "I am delighted once again to have been given the support from the
Glasgow: Scotland with style Design Collective for my second catwalk show at London Fashion Week - where I will be presenting my first ever Autumn/Winter Collection.
“I am very thankful to the Glasgow: Scotland with style Design Collective for helping me work on building my own label. The fashion industry is very challenging and to know I have support from my home city Glasgow is very gratifying. I look forward to working with the Glasgow: Scotland with style Design Collective for seasons to come."
Last year he was awarded the prestigious Harrods Design Award and received the Scottish Young Designer/New Talent Award at the 2006 Scottish Fashion Awards.
Christopher rounded off a remarkable year by being named Scottish Fashion Designer of the Year in October at the 2006 Scottish Style Awards.
Knitwear designer Jennifer Lang will be exhibiting her new Autumn/Winter Collection during London Fashion Week in the main tents at The Natural History Museum.
Jennifer commented: "Jennifer Lang is now entering into its 5th season at London Fashion Week and it is fantastic to be receiving support for a second season from the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau as part of the Glasgow: Scotland with style Design Collective".
"Having exhibited at London Fashion Week, Jennifer Lang now stocks in Japan and L.A and, with the support from Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, I look forward to introducing growing Scottish talent to an international fashion world".
Last year Jennifer was named the Scottish Textile/Cashmere Designer of the Year at the 2006 Scottish Fashion Awards.
Glasgow-based brand Olanic will be represented at OnIOff at the Royal Academy of Arts by designer Niki Taylor whose stand will feature a multi-media installation incorporating fashion, art and music by local band Daddy and the Husband.
“Since exhibiting as part of the Glasgow: Scotland with style Design Collective, Olanic has enjoyed both an increase in sales and a heightened profile.
“Without the support from the initiative I would simply not have been able to participate at this season’s OnIOff.
“I am really interested in the fusion between fashion, art and music that exists in Glasgow and feel that my collaboration with Daddy and the Husband will add an exciting dimension to Olanic’s stand at OnIOff.”
Last year Niki was short listed for both the Scottish Fashion Designer of the Year at the 2006 Scottish Style Awards and the New Talent title at the 2006 Scottish Fashion Awards.
Participation at London Fashion Week and OnIOff is subject to rigorous vetting by either the British Fashion Council for LFW or the OnIOff judging panel. Each event attracts key domestic and international press and buyers.
