Glasgow Yacht Race Sponsorship is Short-Listed for Major Award
Glasgow’s use of the Clipper 05/06 Round-the-World Yacht Race to maximise exposure of the city to international audiences has been short-listed in the category ‘Best Sponsorship of a Sport Team or Individual’ for the Sport Industry Awards 2007.
The Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper visited 13 ports between September 05 and June 06, generating some £3.7 million of media coverage in its wake.
The project is up against 02 – Arsenal Season Campaign 2005 – 06; Aviva – The Aviva Challenge; Land Rover for Range Rover Sport - as Driven by Josh Lewsey,
Samsung Electronics – Chelsea Football Club Sponsorship; and B&Q – Team B&Q British Olympic Association Partnership.
Gordon Ritchie, Head of Projects Marketing at Glasgow City Marketing Bureau said, “Glasgow took the lead on sponsorship exploitation over other international cities supporting the race – including New York and Singapore – and it’s great to see this being recognised by such a prestigious body.”
Councillor Alex Mosson, chairman of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau added, “Glasgow was one of the first cities in the world to see the potential of sponsoring the Clipper Round-the-World Yacht Race and I’m delighted that our foresight has paid off.
“The 05-06 Race presented us with many wonderful opportunities to profile Glasgow: Scotland with style overseas and I look forward to repeating this success in the future.”
The results of the awards will be announced at a star-studded ceremony at Old Billingsgate, London on Thursday, March 29.
Glasgow: Scotland with style has already signed up to sponsoring the Clipper 07/08 Round-the-World Yacht Race.
